Oh hello, this is a little later than I planned to publish this, but I thought why not do it any way!

So, if you weren’t here, in December 2019 I published a Christmas film review a day.   Why did I do it?  Because it sounded like a fun, different thing to do on my blog!

I watch a lot of Christmas films anyway, so I thought why not!  Turns out, 31 films is a lot!

I went into it a little foolishly! I didn’t think about what my favourite Christmas films were, and plan when to watch those, not until 17th December, when it occurred to me that I had more Christmas films (thank you Channel 5!) than days left!   I had recorded everything on channel 5 that I could see as I was worried I wouldn’t see enough Christmas films early enough….Oh how wrong I was!

I wanted to have fantasy films as close to Christmas day as possible, because they make me feel magical!  I wanted to get Die Hard in there somewhere and I still wanted to watch them in order.

I also realised I was just watching a lot of ropey hallmark Christmas films!  I had favourites that I wanted to watch!

I discovered some fun things, such as all the Netflix Christmas films are in the same universe!

So, I deleted a lot of ropey Christmas films that I had still to watch on my DVR (3 Christmas films a day on Channel 5 can give you a lot of films quickly!), and started planning things properly!

So, how did I do my reviews?  Some days I managed to get ahead with the reviewing, but other mornings, I was doing the review before it was scheduled to go out.  I felt pressure to be consistent in my timings, even though posts have very small readerships on them.

I discovered facebook scheduling, and used that, when I remembered!  I was trying to get used to writing the blog post, then scheduling Facebook.  i love instagram, but the scheduling doesn’t work in the same way.  With Facebook you can leave it to get on with it, instagram, you have to be around to press some buttons.  It’s nothing too arduous, as you get reminders on your phone, but still an obstacle in my head, apparently!

Would i do it again – yes!  Would I plan what I was going to watch – oh yes! I didn’t really think about it beforehand!  Channel 5 having  a Christmas film a day in November is what prompted this, and we’ve gone from there.  I didn’t think there was that many Christmas films that I would have a lot of choices.  I was wrong!  Next year, I’ll leave room for new films, and plan the rest.

Why 31 days, and not 24 or 25?  Completeness!  I am the type of person who starts podcasts from the beginning, and will often read a couple of books in order to review the third in a the series.  Who knows how many I’ll do this year!

So, there’s a glimpse into the behind the scenes for my Christmas film posts! I was also posting book reviews, and watching the films, so a busy time for me, blog wise!

If you’re interested, you can have a read of my Christmas films section!  Maybe you can give me recommendations for what I should watch this year!

My review: ?????

When You See Me by Lisa Gardner is a crime novel, set in the US, and is the 20th book in the Gardner Universe, and by this it means that there are characters from different series who cross paths.

This is my first Lisa Gardner book, but she explains who everyone is, and you get a feel for what’s going on very quickly.

Flora Dane was held for just over a year by Jacob Ness, a serial kidnapper linked to a number of disappearances.  When skeletal remains of one of his possible victims are found in the woods, then Flora is a natural person to include in the investigation as she knew Ness best.

This was a well paced crime novel, and one that I really enjoyed.  I was swept along by the story, and wanted to know what would happen next. I didn’t feel like I was missing out on much by not having read the previous books, other than the connection to the characters that you get from having read a lot of books in a series!

When You See Me is to be published on 20th February 2020,  and is available to pre-order on Amazon  and on Waterstones.  I’ve found a link to where you can search for local bookshops, including independent!

You can follow Lisa Gardner on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram (it looks like she uses all three!) or through her website

If you’re interested in crime novels, then here’s some others I’ve reviewed:

Run Away by Harlan Coben

Scrublands by Chris Hammer

The Wedding Guest by Jonathan Kellerman

I was given this book for free in return for an unbiased review, so my thanks to NetGalley and to Random House UK, Cornerstone(the publishers) for this book.

Blogging is one of those things that I’ve gone back and forth on, as you can see in the dates that this blog goes back to, without a lot of consistent posts, and I think my problems have been that I didn’t think I had anything to say, that I wasn’t good enough, and that I’d put in a lot of work and not have anything to show for it.

Those things are all still true, but I believe in improving myself, and this might save me from evening classes, so I’ve signed up for Blogtacular this year (and it’s next weekend!), which is something that definitely inspires imposter syndrome, after all, my blog isn’t big, and I am scared of being thought to be trying to say I know what I’m doing when I really don’t.

But this is exactly one of the things that Blogtacular is there for, so I’m thinking I should go for it.  Why not!

I’ve also signed up to the rollercoaster of running an indie business, which is another way of looking improving my blogging.

It’s a 3 month programme, with June being about indie business, July being about social media, and August about finding your tribe, so I’m really looking forward to it!

This is the welcome pack for the Indie Rollercoaster.  I’m loving all of the rainbows!

So, my thinking at the end of this is why not explore different things, and find something that interests and excites you!

If you want to sign up for Blogtacular yourself, there’s under 20 tickets left, and you can click here to join in the fun!

I recently went on a colour walk through In Colourful Company.

What is a colour walk?  Well, it’s a planned route, where you’ll go past street art, bright houses, and colourfully painted shops, and the plan is for you to take photos, and videos.

It’s a really interesting way to see somewhere, and the colour walk I went on was in Brighton.

We all met at the train station, and if you imagine a colour walk being colourful, you’ve not thought of what the people who will go on one of these will be dressed like!

I’m not sure which was more colourful, the walk or the people on it!

The planners of the event were The Pigeon’s Nest and Hello Dodo, and they did an awesome job!

I’ll show you some of the sights!

I love how this looks like the ivy is her hair!

It was a pretty chilly day, but such a nice walk, as Cassy can attest.

And of course we needed a group photo or two! But, I didn’t take any, so you get the photo that I took of them taking photos of us!

We stopped in at the Brighton Royal Pavilion, and I need to go back some time to see that properly! It looks like such an amazing place!

We finished up at the pier, which has a fun fair at the end! Watching some of the rides going out over the water was a bit stomach churning!

The first 50 people to turn up were given a goody bag, and here’s mine!  There were goodies from Hello Dodo, Spoonful of Sugar, Deb the Lady SnailWe are mountain, Charli Tait Creative, The Grunge Monkey, Woah there pickle,  Nylon toast, and Little Toy lost!

When we got married last year, I had my makeup done professionally, which was very nice, but it was heavier makeup than I’m used to and so when I looked in the mirror, I suddenly noticed a lot more lines around my eyes than I’m used to.

So, I did a stupid thing, and the week before the wedding, I tried out some different skincare things, one of which I was allergic to.  And when I say allergic, I mean red face and very irritated bits.  I went to ask a pharmacist what was wrong, who took one look, and said allergic reaction, and suggested Benadryl, 3 times a day.

Anyway, that’s all a precursor to say that I became more interested in skincare (and no, I didn’t try anything else new until after the wedding!).

I found Caroline Hirons, who posts on youtube and instagram, and is hilarious and very down to earth, and she lead me to Pixi’s Glow Tonic, which is really what I wanted to talk about!
Here’s a close up of my skin from November 2017

I had a facial (my first one ever) before the wedding, and the beauty therapist pointed out all of the little bumps I had over my face (and neck), and suggested I book in for a more serious facial to help with those.  I didn’t, but that was because I decided it was too late to try that, and I didn’t want anything else messing up my skin.

If you have a look at the photo, you can see how bumpy my skin was.

It did make me think, though, and I decided I’d try something to see if it would work, and I remembered Caroline Hirons had mentioned Glow Tonic as being good.

And I have to say, she was right!  I started off with a small bottle of the Glow Tonic, just to see what it was like (slight flashbacks to having a red puffy face), and started using it twice a day.

And a close up of my skin in April 2017
After a week or so, the skin on my face felt smooth for the first time, and it was that moment of ‘oh, this is how it should feel!’
You can actually see the difference in the photo from April!  I’m a very happy convert to using Glow Tonic, and this is something that I can’t see me stopping using any time soon!

If you have a similar problem, then I can highly recommend Pixi Glow Tonic!  You can see what a fan I am for how big a pot I’ve gotten recently!

First, the backstory: I got married in December, and my new surname is Sartain.

We both love Lego, and this was a present at our wedding!  We restrained ourselves from building it right then and there!

I’ve been searching for a blog name that I could have on Facebook and Instagram, so I could say ‘yay, look at what I’ve written’, without spamming my friends and family, who might not be interested!

This blog used to be called ‘A few of my favourite things’, and other than being taken everywhere by everyone (and a great many variations!), I wanted something short and snappy, that was memorable, and some of my favourite blogs are Epbot, Random Nerdery, Boho Berry, Rock n Roll Bride or are people’s names, such as Caroline Hirons, and I’ve found all of them relatively easy to remember!

I was sitting at my laptop this morning, pootling about for names, and was thinking of Geek Out, because yes, I really do that, and I have lots of enthusiasm, I’m always smiling or giggling, and I love a lot of geeky things. But, that was taken, along with lots of other variations (can you see a pattern?).

I started looking at a dictionary of Phrase and Fable, and it went into the meaning behind some words, which made me wonder about the meaning behind Sartain, which, according to Ancestry.com is “English: nickname from Old French certeyn ‘self-assured’, ‘determined’. (The phonetic change of -er- to -ar- was a normal process in Middle English).” I was reading that, and playing with the name in my head, and came to Certain, and merged it with Geeky, and Certainly Geeky was born!

I want to use this blog to write more and to record the fun things that I’ve done and will do!

One of my leaving gifts from my old work was a Tatty Devine workshop, for making a lobster necklace, which I went to late last year.

It was at their Brick Lane shop in London.  You get to go into the shop when it’s closed, and spend about an hour and a half making whatever the workshop is for, and then the shop opens to the general public!

At the end of the workshop, you get to spend some time in the shop, looking around, and you get discount that you can use that day in the shop, to buy any bits that you’ve been lusting over for a while!  All in all, it’s a lovely way to spend a morning!

For the lobster workshop, there weren’t many choices that you had to make, other than what colour chain and jump rings you want to use – either gold or silver, and where to put the sparkly bits!

You put together the bits whilst they’re covered in plastic, which is pretty useful as it means you are far less likely to scratch the plastic as you put the bits together!

The downside to the bits being covered in plastic is that you have to take the plastic off, which isn’t a fast job!

I chose silver for my jump rings and chain, and decided to go with the placement of the sparkly bits as they had them on the sheet!  I know that’s not very exciting, but I liked the way that they looked!

And here is my finished lobster!  Slight diversion, but every time I say ‘lobster’, all i can hear is Iliza Shlesinger, (who is an American comedian, who has a couple of stand up comedy shows on Netflix) talking about lobster on a date – you can watch it on Netflix, and the show is Warpaint!  Go forth and enjoy it!
The awesome artwork above is an original that I bought when I was in the shop, and it’s currently filed away, waiting for wall space!  This kickass Aries woman is wearing the Aries necklace from Tatty Devine, which came out the day before I went to the workshop!

I visited Liberty for the first time in November last year, and I really loved it, but then I think that might have something to do with the age of the building! I mean, just look at it!

Not the brightest of days, but look at the outside!  It’s mock Tudor, built in 1924, and I love all of the detail, inside and outside!

There’s a flower stall at one of the entrances, and they had some really lovely flowers! I resisted buying any, since they would have been a pain to carry around for the rest of the day!  I might stick with buying flowers close to home, and dreaming of Liberty flowers!

I went to the cafe, and found these adorable salt and pepper shakers in the shape of TARDIS!

There is something about these chandeliers that feels very fitting in Liberty!

I thought this plate was adorable!

See what I meant about the detail?

Who needs one mirror when you can have numerous plates with bits of mirror in their middle instead!

These were the Christmas decorations that they put up, and I was there on the day that they had

finished installing them.

Can I just stay here and keep looking at this ceiling please?

I would thoroughly recommend going to visit Liberty if you want a nice way to spend a couple of hours!  Just be warned, it’s pretty pricey in there, so resist falling in love with too much stuff, if you can!

In October 2015, I went to the Knitting and Stitching Show in London, and had a fantastic time looking around at all of the amazing things that people created!

I was useful and put all of the lovely photos from it in a post, but forgot to actually put the post up, so here it is!

I’m going to the Knitting and Stitching Show  in October, and will do a proper post after it.

In the meantime, enjoy some of the photos that I took last year!

As you can see, it was a beautiful day, and really REALLY sunny!

I walked up the hill from the train station which made me feel pretty virtuous!

This was in the foyer – what else does every foyer for exhibition centre need than a bit of a jungle, complete with sphinx?

I think these were thimbles that you could wear around your neck, so you always have a place to put a pin!

No, I’m not sure why there’s boobs and genitals on the wall either….

Sorry for the bad photos – these were all taken on my phone!  But here’s a photo of some lovely overdyed thread in rainbow colours!

Some knitting yarn bowls.

I bought a kit to make up a pin cushion in the same style as the one above!  It’s ribbon sewing, and makes such a nice effect!

And that’s it for the Knitting and Stitching show – this photo above is the last photo I took that day.  I had so many lovely comments from people about my turquoise fox.  I’m afraid this isn’t the most flattering photo!  It was really rather bright when I took the photo!

As you might have guessed from my silence this year, I’ve been a little busy!

The last year has been a very different year for me – I quit my full time job, ebayed, and started organising renovation of 2 house, one of which is finished, and the other will be finished in the next month (urk! There’s still a lot to do!).  I’ve become a teacher, at a local college,  passed my AAT (and had a graduation ceremony for!), and taken up running.  A bit of a difference from last year on all counts!

Here’s some lovely lavender that’s grown in our garden!

But now that things are starting to slow down (or will do later this year!), I’ve decided it’s time to get back into blogging, so there should be a sudden flurry of activity on here!  I hope you enjoy it!
