The town in this book reminded me of the TV show, Eureka in the sense that they’re there for the local employer, who invests in the town (money, in this case rather than weird and wonderful inventions), and there’s a secret.

I enjoyed the playing out of the story. I had an idea about some aspects, but there were lots of things I didn’t see coming!

This is an entertaining sci-fi, with a good pace to the story, lots of aspects to think about, and some mysteries to solve along the way!

Starter Villain is a great story! I found it to be fast paced and cinematic!

It’s a very fun read, with fantastic twists, characters that delight and lots of comedy!

I have enjoyed every John Scalzi book I’ve read so far! They have all delivered on great plots, lots of action and all been very atmospheric!

This book covers the teenage years of a boy, whose parents have split up, and he goes from living in Michigan to Montana.

There are some trigger warnings for this book: rape, alcohol abuse, under age sex and animal cruelty.

I didn’t find myself gripped by the book. It was a fine story, but I didn’t feel like there was much emotional change between August at the beginning of the book Vs at the end of the book.

It jumps forward in time, with your guidance for this being the seasons. I found some of the storylines to be a little loose.

Well, that was a great read! It is fittingly spooky for the time of year I’ve read it, with ghosts and secret societies performing rituals!

I really enjoyed the combination of Alex’s hard life with the glitz and glam of life at Yale. It works really well to show why people do the things they do. “You can’t…” Was a great example of this!

The storyline was great, with great unveilings at dramatic moments, and with creeping realisation in others!

If you’re after secret societies at Yale who perform magic, then this is a great read!

And now I need to decide if I can wait for the paperback edition to come out in January for the next part of the story!

I wasn’t sure what to expect of Masters of Death, but a story of love really wasn’t on the list!

This has a cast of characters that we spend time with, and is a story that spans hundreds of years!

There’s demons, a reaper, angels, a range of other immortals and mortals.

There are aspects that you just have to trust in the storyteller to explain something when you need to know more, and that pays off!

This is a great story, told with comedy, longing and love.

This is the sequel to Only a Monster, and wow, what a sequel!

The story carries on from Only a Monster, but it’s been a couple of months. There is enough information if you hadn’t just read the first book, to remind you without having to re-read it!

The story is unveiled so well, and you go from ‘i don’t understand what X means’ to fully understanding the implications, and to seeing things from the first book that you didn’t know were being set up having more meaning.

This is an action fantasy with time travel. I really enjoyed the story, and I’m looking forward to the next one!

One of the things I haven’t mentioned in previous reviews is that the author is also autistic, and so she draws on that knowledge. Women with autism mask, which means people might not recognise that they have autism, and this is one of the themes of this book.

I think to have main characters with autism, especially women, is so good to see.  Neuro-divergency is rare to find in books, though I have also read and reviewed The Maid recently, which also has a main character with neuro-divergency.

I’ve loved Quan in the other two books of this series, and so to have him as one of the main characters of this book was great!

This is a romance with lots of other themes running through it.  This book did have me cringing at certain points, but it also had me laughing and crying!

My review:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is the second of three books with the same characters and family.  The first book had the female main character (Stella) with Asperger’s, and this book has the male main character (Khai) with autism.

It’s really well written, from two points of view.  One is Khai’s, and the other is Esme, fresh from Vietnam, and here as Khai’s bride, potentially, brought over by Khai’s mother.

The insight into Khai interacting with the world, and of course, Esme, and then seeing Esme’s feelings and thoughts about the same time is really great, and it lets you see a neuro-divergent point of view.

This does have sex scenes, but nowhere near as many as the first book.

One of the things that I really like about Ali Hazelwood’s books is that the setting is always going to be something STEM related, and since I don’t know much about that world, I find the insights to be fascinating!

The world of politics in academia was well written, and the romance was great!

I have loved every Ali Hazelwood book I’ve read so far, and she has become one of those authors that I’ll read whatever I can get my hands on!
