My review:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I felt sure that this book couldn’t be up to the hype I’ve heard about this book, but I was hooked on the first page!

I’ve recommended it to multiple people, I’ve bought it on Kindle, devoured it, bought it in hardback got my shelf and then pre-ordered the next book, which is due out in November this year!

I adored it! It’s fast paced, believable characters and oh….DRAGONS!

A girl goes to training school to fight for the chance of a dragon, but there’s not many dragons, and a lot of candidates, who are willing to kill for the chance of getting a dragon!

I really enjoyed the scene setting and world building, the different types of dragons and the characters, with all of their reasons why they do what they do!

The Setup is a romance comedy, set in a seaside town, with a protagonist who adores astrology.

It’s a fun story, with a fun set of colleagues at the Lido, a room mate who turns out to be male, and lots of character development!

I really enjoyed the book, even if I did cringe at the start of it!

Godkiller is a great fantasy adventure novel.  I enjoyed the story, and I found the characters to be complicated and interesting.

The world is vividly described right from the first page, and well explained.  There is action, romance, and found family.

This is the start of a new fantasy series, and I’m looking forward to the next book!

Only A Monster is a YA fantasy novel, with our main character, Joan, learning about herself, her family and a world she knew nothing about, which is a great way for the reader to be introduced to the world.

I liked the story arc, and how the characters develope over time.

I didn’t see the end coming, and I was fully invested in the story!  It was a really enjoyable read.

The Lost Wife is a thriller told from 2 points of view, one in the present and the other from one year before.

The characters are well written, and the story sweeps you along.

I enjoyed the twists and turns that come along, and I didn’t see most of them coming!

Yellowface is an uncomfortable, fascinating and thrilling read!

This is not a breezy beach read, just so you are warned. It is well written, with characters that I found to be well constructed. I highly recommend you pick it up, preferably with a friend that you can message. Personally, I sent quite a lot of messages as events in this book unfolded!

Rebecca F. Kuang is also known as R F Kuang, the author of Babel and the Poppy War series, which are fantasy novels with dark themes.

Murder in the Secret Maze is an enjoyable cosy crime novel, which starts at a wedding.

I liked the set up, and the way that the story progressed. It is written in the style of so many other cosy crime books, and I was happy to be swept along with the story!

This is the first book in a series, so you don’t need to worry about knowing the cast and the setting, as that’s all being set up for you!

My review:⭐⭐⭐⭐

Devolution is a tense thriller, with two points of view, one a journal and the other interviews with various agencies after the event.

I liked the way this starts, so you know there’s been an event, but you don’t know what happened. The tension really builds as you read on!

I really enjoyed the first person narrative from the journal, and then the interviews.  They were great juxtapositions to each other, and added to the atmosphere of the book.

This is by the same author as World War Z, which I’m afraid I haven’t read, or seen the film!

The Swords of Silence is an alternative history, set in Japan when being a Christian is outlawed.

I found this to be quite long winded, and I didn’t like any of the characters, so it wasn’t a book that I sped through. I was interested in the period in time and the setting, but this book just didn’t grab me, I’m afraid!

Dear Edward is a sweet story of a boy finding his place in the world after a tragedy, and how it affects his family and friends.

Imagining the media spotlight on Edward is a scary thing, and I think this book covered that quite well.

This is quite hard to read I’m places, but it is a very moving book.

We head a news story as it’s happening, and this covers the aftermath and how it affects people.
