My review:?????

The Lucky Escape is Laura Jane Williams’ third novel, and is just as good as the others!

Annie was due to marry Alexander, but he doesn’t show up for the wedding, so when she ends up going on her honeymoon with an old friend, Patrick, it’s not quite the honeymoon she had thought she was going to have!

Annie is reminded of who she used to be, pre Alexander, and this is the perfect trip to reset herself.

This is a romance, with unexpected moments, sadness and joy.  I really enjoyed reading Annie and Patrick’s journey.

The Lucky Escape was published on 10th June 2021 and is available from Amazon, Waterstones and Bookshop.org.

Only You by Kate Eberlen has Alf and Letty who meet in Rome on a language course.  They both have a background in dance – Letty in ballet and Alf in ballroom.  Whilst they both connect, they both have pasts.

We are taken between the present and the past to see how history has an impact on their current actions, and why they are both in Rome for a language course.

This is a romance with some odd connections, and situations that are hard.  I enjoyed the reveal, piece by piece of the past and what the implications were.

This is a well written book, covering some tough subjects, so here’s a trigger warning for rape.

Only You was published on 30th April 2020, and is available from Amazon, Waterstones and Bookshop.org.

Romancing Mr Bridgerton by Julia Quinn (Bridgertons 4) is about Colin, who is back in London having been on another trip abroad.  He’s still getting a lot of attention from Lady Whistledown, and is very used to people thinking of him as being charming but nothing else.

When he sees Penelope, he’s enchanted.  He’s not seen it before, but he wants to be with her now.  Penelope has loved Colin for years, but she never thought she had a chance with him.  She also has her own issues.

I enjoyed the book, but found Colin to be annoying in places.  I’m still going to read more in the series!  I love the setting and the pace fo the stories.

Romancing Mr Bridgerton was published on 1st July 2002, and is available from Amazon, Waterstones and Bookshop.org.

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas has Feyre back in the Spring Court, and if she has to be there, then she’ll get the revenge she wants, and find out exactly what Tamlin has agreed to with the King of Hybern.

This series are all large books – this one is about 700 pages long, but I find they fly by.  The story goes at a good rate, and I didn’t know where it was going to go, which is often a good thing!  This is fantasy romance, so there are sex scenes, but there are also political machinations, the threat of war, and family dynamics.  I enjoy this series, and look forward to the next book!

A Court of Wings and Ruin was published on 2 May 2017, and is available on Amazon, Waterstones and Bookshop.org.

An Offer From A Gentleman by Julia Quinn (Bridgertons 3) is about Benedict Bridgerton, the second son, and Sophie Beckett.  She’s the daughter of an Earl, but in a very Cinderella way, her mother died, her father married again, her stepmother brought her two daughters, and none of them like Sophie.  When her father dies, she’s treated as a servant, and is told to feel lucky.

She meets Benedict at a masquerade ball.  She recognises who he is, but doesn’t tell him who she is. They were both drawn to one another, but Sophie doesn’t feel worthy of him, and as Benedict doesn’t know who she is, he’s going to struggle to find her.

I found some of the behaviour in this book to be questionable, but I enjoyed the ending, and I’m going to keep going with the series!

An Offer From A Gentleman was published on 1st July 2001, and is available from Amazon, Waterstones and Bookshop.org.

The Beautiful Ones by Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a fantasy story, set in a period setting, where The Beautiful Ones are those who are high society.  Nina is having her debut, and her cousin, and his wife, are the ones who are launching her.  But her cousin’s wife is not interested in Nina so much as what her actions reflect on her.

Nina has the power of telekinesis, and when she meets the popular entertainer, Hector, who performs for audiences around the world, she’s smitten. To be fair, she was smitten before she met him, when she only read about him.

But Hector sees her as a way of getting access to a woman he used to be involved with, and still loves.  The question is, how long can he string Nina along before she gets hurt?

I found this to be entertaining, and felt quite like a regency romance book, except the setting isn’t precisely described in a timeline. It’s an enjoyable book with light fantasy added in.

The Beautiful Ones was published on 27th April 2021, and is available to buy from Amazon, Waterstones and Bookshop.org.

The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez has Tucker, a dog on the run, nearly get hit by Sloan.  She takes the dog in whilst trying to find the owner.  Sloan was on her way to her late fiancĂ©’s grave when Tucker appeared out of nowhere, and suddenly is making her life better.

Jason is Tucker’s owner.  He is a musician, has been backpacking in New Zealand, and returns to Australia for his gig, and when he turns on his phone for the first time in 2 weeks, and gets all of Sloan’s messages, he gets all of her messages, and is immediately interested in her.

I know I’m enjoying a book when I go to make myself a tea and carry my book with me to keep reading, and I did that with this book.  I very much enjoyed it, and can’t wait to read more of her books!

The Summer Job by Lizzy Dent is about Birdy, who always screws up her jobs, and chooses the wrong man.  Heather, her best friend, is a sommelier, and chooses to follow a man to Italy, instead of taking up a position in a Scottish hotel and restaurant that she was due to start.  Birdy is currently penniless and homeless, and so she winds up taking the job.  After all, how hard could the job be?

Hard, as it turns out.  There are cringeworthy moments, but this is written so well, with such an enjoyable story that I raced through the book.

If you like Beth O’Leary or Laura Jane Williams, then you’ll enjoy this book!

The Switch by Beth O’Leary has Leena and her grandmother Eileen who switch lives for 2 months.  Leena’s sister died just over a year ago, and she’s still grieving, throwing herself into work, until she has an issue during a presentation with a client.  Eileen is 79 years old, and after being left by her husband for his yoga teacher, she is ready to look for love, but the pickings in the village are slim.

This is a great story, with Eileen working out how to live in London, and Leena in a village where everyone knows everyone else’s business.  I really enjoyed Eileen’s story just as much as Leena’s.

The Switch was published on 16th April 2020, and is available on Amazon, Waterstones and Bookshop.org.

A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses #2) by Sarah J. Maas continues Feyre’s story.  She survived Amarantha’s court and gained powers of the High Fae lord’s who brought her back to life, but she isn’t over the emotional toil of what happened at that court.

Tamlin is delighted to have her home in the Spring Court, but she has to abide by the agreement she made with Rhysand, where she has to go off with him.  She feels disconnected from life, and divided as she tries to return to herself.

This is another great fantasy romance book, where you get swept along with the story, seeing how life changes for Feyre, and cheering her on.

A Court of Mist and Fury was published on 3rd May 2016, and is available from Amazon, Waterstones and Bookshop.org.
